PUT GOD FIRST

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the cares of this life? Perhaps you’ve been concerned lately because you’re not sure how you’re going to make ends meet. Or, maybe your battle is not so much finances, rather, you’re just a little apprehensive about “tomorrow” and what to expect “next.” You know, we’ve all been there in some form or fashion, and Jesus knew that we would have these concerns pertaining to our lives. In fact, over 2000 years ago, He addressed this exact topic.

In Matthew 6: 25-34, Jesus said that we do not have to worry about our needs being met and we do not have to be concerned about “tomorrow.” We do not have to be anxious about anything! In fact, He says very clearly in scripture, “DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW.” He promises in these passages of scripture that the Heavenly Father will supply every need if we will just put Him first. He promises that “all things” that we need will be “added” to our lives. In other words, God is not going to overlook any detail or leave anything out!

This word from Jesus is such a powerful promise for every believer on a very personal level! What it means is that you don’t have to live your life with uncertainty and lack! Rather, you can expect the Lord to direct your steps and take care of “tomorrow” and provide for you! You do not have to worry about what the future holds because He’s holding your future, and He’s already called it good!

Scripture says that God will “add” His blessings to your life in such a way that every need will be met! This is an amazing word! You see, when the Lord adds to something…the blessing doesn’t stop! It just keeps multiplying in the natural in an abundant manner. It keeps replenishing, it never runs out! It just keeps re-creating or multiplying itself throughout time until the purpose for which God sent forth His word is completed. The revelation behind Matthew 6: 25-34, contains the secret to living a life of worry-free, unending provision.

If you have been battling with worry and anxiety over the future or regarding finances, be encouraged! Your “sad story of worry” is not how God intends for you to live. God has a better life than that for you! Jesus does not intend for you to live without the basic things that you need, or live scared because you’re not sure what’s going to happen next. He has provided the key to living a life of blessing and abundance in scripture. It’s right there…written in red! Jesus said to put a relationship with Him first [seek first the Kingdom of God ] AND live according to the Word of God [pursue His righteousness]. When you and I follow these instructions of Jesus, we don’t have to worry about what happens next because God will see to it that we are taken care of in every area of life.

God’s word will work on your behalf EVERY TIME if you will only DO YOUR PART in the process. Trust God with your future and make Him number one in all areas of your life.

Put God first and you don’t have to worry about what happens next!

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

-Matthew 6: 25-34
